Youth Coaching

'Go-Ride' registered

We are a British Cycling ‘Go-Ride’ registered club which supports children to develop and progress their cycling journey.

Our Level 2 qualified coaches support riders in fun and engaging activities to develop confidence and competence in the foundations of bike-handling and riding skills, plus gear selection, braking, cornering, climbing and descending and some group riding skills.

Venue

Our Go-Ride activities are delivered in a safe traffic free environment. From March to November (excluding school holiday periods) we hold our coaching sessions on most Saturday mornings at Teledyne E2V employee car park, 106 Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford CM1 2QU from 9:00 to 10:30.

Access to and from the venue is by cycle or car only. There is strictly no pedestrian access as there is no pavement on the access road.

Follow our Facebook Page for weekly updates as some changes do unfortunately occur due to venue and coach availability Chelmer CC - Youth Cycle Coaching

Cycling for life

Our emphasis is on regular, local and affordable cycling activity to make it easier to keep coming back and create a cycling habit for life.

Ages

Our youth coaching sessions are for all genders aged 5 - 15 years, and are free, although after two ‘taster’ sessions we require club membership which is just £5 per annum for under 16’s.

Requirements

Riders must already be able to ride, albeit looking to improve and develop their confidence. They must bring their own bike (in good working order). A ‘bike check’ is undertaken at the beginning of each weekly session. Suitable bikes are road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrid (flat bar) bikes preferably with gears. (No BMX bikes). All riders must wear a cycle helmet, sports clothing (layers) and preferably gloves. Also bring along a drink.

Off-road skills

In the winter we do occasionally move our coaching activities to an off road location, practicing Cyclo Cross and Mountain Bike skills as an increasing number of our club riders compete in the Eastern Cyclo Cross League, which includes our clubs own promotion at Springfield Hall Park in early September.

Confidence

Should your child be looking to build their confidence riding a bike, in a traffic free environment, developing their skills towards participating in cycling as a competitive sport or just as a competent leisure cyclist, then our coaching will start and develop their cycling journey.
