Chelmer Open TT

The Chelmer Open TT and Essex Championships took place last Sunday

30/7/2026

The Chelmer Open was held on Sunday 26th July 2026 on the E9/25 from Writtle to Dunmow and back, also incorporating the Interclub competition between Chelmer CC and Southend Wheelers for the Bob Haworth Trophy.

It was also the event for this years’ Essex TT Championships. The fastest rider in the Open and Female categories would earn the title of Essex TT Champion 2026.

There were 42 entries and a handful of DNS. The weather was warm, with a breezy Westerly in play. Showers were forecast, but fortunately the rain held off until the very end when a sharp downpour soaked a handful of riders on the way back to HQ.

There were some great rides across the categories.

Essex Champions

Congratulations to Jonny Allen who took the TT open win in 51:49 and Liz Richardson who was victorious in the female race. They are the Essex TT Champions for 2026. Daniel Shanney was fastest road bike in the open and Ruth Stapleton was fastest female on a road bike.

The Chelmer team of Peter Harding, Ian Cardy, Ben Newman and Rob Johnstone retained the Bob Haworth trophy. Peter was the fastest rider of the 8 on the day with 56:04.

A loose dog on the course threatened to cause major problems but thankfully most riders avoided too much delay.
